CORAL REEFS
They are hot spots that make up less 1% but they are home to 25% of the Marine Biome. They provide protection for coastal communities from catastrophic events. Elements extracted from coral reefs are used in medicines for cancer, aids, etc. They are referred to the "Rain Forest of the Ocean."

CONTINENTAL SHELF
The continental shelf is a extended perimeter of each continent. After each shelf there is steep slope. It can extend up to 500 km. The continental shelf consists of thick sediments deposited by turbidity currents. In other words, you can say that it is where rivers, streams, etc., deposit.

OCEAN FLOOR
The ocean floor can contain many features and can vary color. The deepest point is up to 11,033 meters deep. Ecosystems may vary depending on the dept of the ocean floor. Some parts there are coral reefs and a diversity of animals.

SEA MOUNTS
A sea mount is a mountain under water that does not reach sea level, therefore not an island. There are, estimated, 100,000 sea mounts varying in shapes and sizes. It is common to find sea mounts in hold ecosystems. They can rise up to 1,000 meters above seafloor.

TOMBOLOS
A tombolo is a pathway made of sand/gravel connecting land. When enough sediment has been carried by the waves and deposited it will make a shore line. When the waves deposit the sediments long enough it will then connect both pieces of land. When they are finally attached it is called a tied island.

VOLCANOES
One difference of under water volcanoes is that there is more water pressure than air pressure. Recently they have found that the largest volcano ,underwater, is Tamu. When it erupts the magma cools down easily making the process easier.

TRENCH
A trench is a narrow-sided valley on the ocean floor. Trenches are caused by tectonics plates colliding together and sliding under. They are located more in the deeper areas. It is common to find a trench that is 3 / 4 km in dept. The biggest trench is called Mariana Trench, it is located in the Challenger Deep.

BEACHES
A beach is a landform next to a body of water. They are commonly located where there is wave action to deposit and renew. They can be made up of rocks, sand, gravel, shingle, pebbles, or cobblestones. Beaches that do not have a life guard and are underdeveloped are called wild beaches. They can valued for their beauty.

ISLANDS
They are landmasses surrounded by water. They can be like a little rock to the size of Greenland. There can be two types of islands, continental islands and coral islands. continental islands are in shallow waters and can be wiped out with floods. Coral islands are made up of composed limey skeletons and coral polyps.

CONTINENTAL SLOPE
The continental slope comes after the continental shelf connecting the ocean floor, picture it as a slide and the ground as the ocean floor. As you go down the slope life changes. The water gets colder and also the pressure increases making it hard for humans. Apart from the pressure and weather, the air decreases.
